The image of mass beating claimed by the police did not match in the CCTV camera

A youth named Raihan Uddin Ahmed (34) died at the Bandarbazar outpost of Kotwali police station after being injured in a mass beating in a wooded area of Sylhet city, police claimed. However, no such image of mass beating was found in the closed circuit (CC) camera set up by the ward councilor in the area. The wooden house area belongs to ward 14 of Sylhet City Corporation. The entire area is covered by closed circuit (CC) cameras. These cameras are monitored in the office of Ward Councilor Nazrul Islam. Visiting his office on Sunday night, footage captured on CCTV cameras in the Kastghar area from 12pm on Saturday to 6am on Sunday did not show any scenes of mass beatings. Even at this time no police patrol was seen in the wooded area. Ward councilor Nazrul told Sylhet Today, 'I also saw the footage of the night and morning captured on CCTV. No incident of mass beating was seen in the area from Saturday night to Sunday morning. Nothing suspicious was seen in the footage. I talked to a few local residents. They also did not hear that something like this had happened. Some permanent residents of the woodshed said none of them had heard of any mass beatings on Saturday night or early Sunday morning. However, police went to the area around 10 am on Sunday and said that a young man was killed in a mass beating in the area in the morning. A lawyer, who did not want to be named, said: "Drug addicts can be heard shouting in the area almost at night. The sound of police whistles can also be heard. But I did not hear anything like that on Saturday night or Sunday morning. If there was an incident of mass beating, at least some noise and screams could be heard. That too could not be heard. ' Sub-Inspector (SI) Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan told reporters that Raihan died on the way to the hospital from Bandarbazar outpost. He declined to comment when told that no footage of the beating had been found on CCTV. Asked about the matter, Sylhet Kotwali Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Inspector (Investigation) Soumen Mitra also did not want to comment. "We are investigating," he said. Sylhet Metropolitan Police spokesperson and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Jyotirmoy Sarkar told Sylhet Today, “The incident is being investigated. Details will be revealed after the investigation.
